The numbers help us all to better understand the community of Romanians in other countries. The Financial Newspaper recently published, in July 2025, an article based on Eurostat data, Romania growing outside the borders: Over 15% of Romanians settled in European Union countries are under 15 years old.

I have summarized for you the most important information:

Romania is the first in the European Union in terms of migration rate to EU countries, with 3.1 million Romanians, representing 16% of the country's population.
Germany and France, with a percentage of under 1%, have the lowest migration rate relative to the country's population, in the EU.
The largest Romanian communities in the European Union are in Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria and Belgium, with 2.8 million people. The figure represents 90% of the total Romanians living in other member states of the European Union than Romania.
500,000 Romanian children up to 15 years old – meaning one in six Romanians - live in the largest Romanian communities in the European Union, in these countries:
- Italy (200,000)
- Spain
- Germany
- Austria
- Belgium
