More and more Romanians are choosing to stay financially connected to Romania. Since the beginning of the year, 18,000 people from the diaspora have opened an account at Banca Transylvania, either through the BT Pay or BT Pay Italia apps, or at the bank’s branches in Romania and Italy. Most of these people live in Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany.
Romanians living abroad are also interested in BT's online platforms for the Diaspora and BT Italia, which have already recorded nearly 1 million accesses this year.
Benefits for Romanians who choose BT: double interest and cashback on RON and EUR savings
If you are among Romanians living abroad, you can receive up to 100 euros cashback if you follow these steps:
- You become a BT client through the BT Pay app (details are here);
- Pay, still using BT Pay, with one of your BT RON or euro cards, in-store and online;
- You are signing up for campaign page that we have for you at this time.
Also, if you are among the first 500 people to open a current account via BT Pay and open a savings account in RON or EUR at Banca Transilvania – also through the app – from August 10, 2026, you will benefit from double the interest for the first month of saving.
Banking for life between two countries, with BT Pay
Life in the diaspora often means two worlds – the country you live in and Romania – which you can easily connect thanks to the BT Pay app.
Some reasons to have BT Pay:
- Even if you are a new BT Pay client, you immediately have access to all the app’s features and instantly receive your digital debit card in the app, and later the physical card at a bank branch or at your chosen address.
- The card can be loaded either via IBAN transfer or with a card from another bank added in BT Pay.
- If you are a resident of Italy, we have the BT Pay Italia app for you, which means an Italian IBAN - so income from Italy can be received into your BT account without collection fees -, a digital card, and instant transfer solutions.
Wherever you are, Romania can be close. BT, your home bank.
